The Graduate School is conceived of as an open flexible architecture for inter-institutional, inter-disciplinary collaboration. We are currently establishing a number of mechanisms to foster interactions between the graduate school and colleagues and practitioners working across a wide spectrum of disciplines. This page will be used to keep existing and potential collaborators appraised of early stage project development to enable collaborative inputs to commence from project initiation stage and thus ensure a fully collaborative process. If you wish to make contact with the School in connection with a specific initiative please email the named contact person identified in respect of each project.

Types Of Researcher At GradCAM

The researchers are the key to the school’s intellectual and creative life. Their engagement and enquiry fuel the energy and drive of the school’s community as a whole. Typically our researchers not only work through the school but are als attached to the various units of research and graduate work across the collaborating institutions (e.g., centres, departments, schools, and faculties).

There are three types of researcher working with the school:

  1. Research Scholars
  2. Core Researchers
  3. Associate Researchers

1. Research Scholars

Research Scholars are full-time researchers based in the school. They are typically in receipt of funding to enable them to operate as full researchers. The initial cohort of research scholars (recruited to the school in spring 2008) consists of: 8 researchers funded through the original PRTLI cycle 4 grant (establishing the school); and a further 2 researchers funded through Strand 1.

2. Core Researchers

Core Researchers are full-time researchers who participate in the full programme of the school but who are not fully funded as such. The first cohort of core researchers commence their studies at the school in the autumn semester 2008. Typically our core researchers consist of doctoral track researchers who are registered in one or other of our collaborating institutions. Anyone pursuing a doctoral track research project across these institutions is welcome to apply to become a core researcher in the school. Contact the Dean (mick.wilson@gradcam.ie)

3. Associate Researchers

Associate Researchers are researchers who come from a variety of backgrounds and contexts and have a part-time or visiting relationship with the school. There are many ways of interacting with the school through the associate researcher role: these include international visiting researchers; participants in the core weekly programme of research pedagogy; attendants at specialist workshop and seminar series; or engaged participants in research development and proposal writing workshops. The school welcomes expressions of interest from researchers wishing to participate in aspects of the school’s expanding range of programmes and projects. The key offering that we provide for associate researchers is the access to the school’s teaching programme, seminars and events and an opportunity to join a dynamic peer-community of motivated and engaged interdisciplinary cohort of researchers. Typically an associate researcher is attached to the school on a semester by semester basis. There were approximately 10 such associate researchers during the spring semster 2008 and these included participants in ‘mobilise’, various seminars, and other related school activities. If you are interested in becoming an associate researcher, then check our FAQs sheet on researching with the school and see also our ‘get involved’ and ‘events’ pages for more details about the work of the school.
