Martin McCabe is a DIT Fellow in the Graduate School of Creative Arts and Media. His current research is in the visual cultures of the urban imaginary, everyday life and the archive and the politics of pedagogy. He has been on secondment as the DIT Fellow at the Graduate School of Creative Arts and Media (GradCAM) since January 2008. Although educated as a visual artist, his practice has been focused on organizational and facilitative activities and educational and critical modes of production, namely his involvement through the Critical Access artists run collective in the international conference ‘Critical Sites: Issues in Critical Art practice and Pedagogy in 1998. Since the early 1990s, he has lectured in Cultural Studies at the National College of Art and Design (1993-1995), been the education officer of Arthouse (1995-1996) and a lecturer and the programme co-ordinator for the MSc in Multimedia Systems in TCD (1996-1998). Since arriving at the DIT, he has been involved in postgraduate research in education and curriculum development, particularly in the areas of practice-based research and issues surrounding media pedagogy.

Doctoral supervision includes both practice-based projects and text-based scholarship on subjects such as: photography and visual studies, visual ethnographic methods and the politics and formation of photographic, moving image archives and education, network cultures, locative media and music.
