Dr. Mike Glennon

Mike Glennon is a Dublin based composer and audio visual artist. His compositions and audiovisual works have featured in digital arts exhibitions and at music and film festivals in locations including Paris, New Orleans, Cardiff, Cork and Dublin and he has been commissioned as a composer by organisations including the National Museum of Ireland, Dublin City Council and the Dublin Festival of History. As a member of the band the 202s his music has been released to positive critical notice across Europe by Harmonia Mundi / Le Son du Maquis making him labelmates with artists including Cluster, Faust and A Certain Ratio. Mike joined GradCAM as a research scholar in October 2015. His research explores the use of customised, self-built and hybrid softwares, instruments and sound generating devices, and of repurposed technologies in the creation and performance of electronic music and interrogates the aesthetic and political motivations for such actions. It focuses particularly upon “post-digital” electronic music, a term used “to denote a certain zeitgeist in electronic music……in which there is a mood of questioning and reflection in regard to working with digital technology.” Initial research findings were presented at Ideopreneurial Entrephonics: A Festival of Sound Art and Electronic Instruments in Dublin in April 2016.
