some themes and ideas in the critical study of culture
This is a series of one hour weekly sessions designed to introduce researchers to key issues in the contemporary study of culture with particular reference to key constructs and terms such as: ideology; discourse; hegemony; dispositif; precarity; multitude; representation; cultural politics; and so forth. See Autumn 2010 programme here.
The sessions take place on Thursday at noon in John Street starting 3/2/2010. In the Autumn 2010 series we had introductory sessions on: criticism, critique and critical theory; culture - a complicated word; the aesthetic; ideology; discourse and dispositive; modernity, modernism and mass culture; avant-gardism and cultural revolution; human capital; cultural commodities and intellectual properties; public culture and public relations.
