book publishing workshop for researchers

joint HII UCD/GradCAM event 11:00 - 17:30

This is a workshop designed to introduce researchers to the issues and practices in preparing a book or edited volume for publication. Colleagues from across the sector will provide concrete examples of the process of publishing monographs, co-edited anthologies, special theme journal issues and other examples of book projects for communicating research.

Speakers include: Mary Ann Bolger (DIT), Dr. Justin Carville (IADT), Brenda Dermody (DIT), Prof. Gary Granville (NCAD), Dr. Francis Halsall (NCAD), Dr. Brian O'Neill (DIT), and (from UCD Press) Noelle Moran and Barbara Mennell.

The speakers will address their experience with current, or recently completed, publishing projects. Each presenter has been asked to address a series of short questions:
1. What was the book / journal / publishing project about?
2. How was it started? What was the hardest part of starting?
3. How did the project change over development? Did it change much?
4. What were the funding circumstances? Any institutional supports?
5. What advice would you give to first time authors/editors?
6. Where does the project stand now? If completed what are you working now?

Some of the books / volumes authored / edited by the contributors include:
Brian O'Neill et al. (eds.) (2010) Digital Radio in Europe: Technologies, Industries and Cultures. Bristol: Intellect Books.
Justin Carville (2007) Early Popular Visual Culture, Volume 5 Issue 3
